Chelsea’s hopes of signing Napoli and Nigeria  striker Victor Osimhen appear to be fast receding.

The 25 year old has long been one of their top targets, but it now looks increasingly likely that he will be joining PSG, who are looking for a replacement for the now departed Kylian Mbappé.

Napoli’s president Aurelio de Laurentis has already conceded that the player, who played a pivotal role in their 2022/2023 Serie A success, will leave the Italian club this summer.

And, despite inserting a ₤113 million release clause into his contract when he signed a new deal this summer, he has since dropped his asking price to ₤84 million.

That is still to expensive as far as Chelsea and some of his other suitors are concerned, but not for the deep pockets of PSG.

However, there could still be a silver lining for Chelsea. If Osimhen does leave Napoli, they are considering Romelu Lukaku, who remains on the books of the West London club, to take his place.
