Chelsea have ended their long standing interest in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
Instead they have switched their attention to Artem Dovbyk who plays for Girona, the surprise package in La Liga last season.
Dovbyk played a big part in their success, having been signed for ₤5.5 million last summer from Dnipro-1. The Ukrainian went on to score 24 goals and provided another 8 assists in 36 league games.
That made him the top scorer in the league and earned him the Golden Boot for the season.
He has a release clause of ₤37 million, which is significantly less than Osimhen would cost.
It is hoped also that the 26 year old might bring out the best in fellow Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk, who has struggled for consistency in his time at Stamford Bridge so far.
