Chelsea’s attempts to sign Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig have hit a stumbling block, with the German club showing no appetite to allow one of their star assets to go easily.
It was thought that Leipzig’s failure to qualify for the Champions League this season would tempt them to sell the player in order to raise funds to rebuild their squad, but, despite Chelsea offering several players in part-exchange, the Bundesliga side are not interested so far.
That is despite one of them being a former Leipzig player, Christopher Nkonku, whose has endured an injury-hit spell since his switch to West London.
Tyrell George and Armando Broja have also been offered to the Germans.
Still only 22, Simons is already much travelled, having spent time with both PSV Eindhoven and PSG before joining Leipzig, initially on loan, and then permanently in January. He finished last season having scored 10 Bundesliga goals and seven assists.
