The release clause of Arsenal target Eberechi Eze has now expired.

The Crystal Palace winger previously had a buy-out clause in nis contract worth ₤68 million, nut with now less than two weeks to the start of the new season, that is no longer operative.

On the one hand this may boost the chances of Palace of hanging on to their prized asset. However, they could also find themselves in a predicament. Eze is about to start the final year of his contract, and, faced with the prospect of losing him for nothing at the end of the season, they may have to sell him for below their valuation.

The Gunners remain keen on making Eze their seventh signing of the summer window, but have always believed that the release clause is too high, and personal terms are not believed to be an issue.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are all monitoring developments as well.
