Chelsea are interested in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.
They have switched their attention to him after cooling their interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, believing that he is too expensive and that the North-East club are not prepared to sell him anyway.
Liam is the son of Rory, who played for Southampton, Sunderland, and Stoke City among other clubs during his career, and who was famous for his long throws.
Although he began his youth career with Derby County, Liam then joined the Manchester City academy, where he was a near contemporary of Cole Palmer.
He did make two senior appearances during his time at the Etihad, but after several loan spells away, including one at his father’s old club, Stoke City, he joined newly promoted Ipswich Town in a deal worth ₤20 million.
He has subsequently scored six goals in 12 appearances for the ‘Tractor Boys.”
Delap has played for England at every age group up to under-21 level.
