Slot opts to stay in club football

Arne Slot wants to stay in club football and has turned down the chance to manage his national side.

The Netherlands were looking for a new head coach after Ronald Koeman stepped down from the job for a second time after his side were knocked out of the World Cup by Morocco in the round of 32 after a penalty shoot-out.

Meanwhile, Slot is looking for a new job after he was dismissed by Liverpool a season after leading them to the Premier League title.

However, whilst he maintains that he has immense respect for the Dutch team and the national football federation he still believes that he has a lot to offer club football, and enjoys working with players on a daily basis.

Instead they have turned to former Barcelona head coach Xavi, who has signed a four-year deal which should take him through to the World Cup in 2030.

He will be the first foreign coach of the Dutch national team since the Austrian stepped down from the job in 1978.

Xavi has been out of football since quitting Barcelona two years ago.
