Chelsea are close to signing goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, after agreeing a deal in principle to buy him from La Liga side Villareal.

Still just 22 years of age, Jorgensen is a Swedish born player who has represented Denmark at under-21 level.

He secured the number one spot at Villareal last season and, although he struggled initially, he gained in confidence to the degree that he has become one of the most highly rated young keepers playing in Spain.

Chelsea have already submitted an offer of ₤16.9 million for his services, and, although that has not been immediately accepted, discussions between the two clubs are continuing and are expected to have a favourable outcome.

He is under contract with the Yellow Submarines until 2027.

Jorgensen is expected to compete for the number one jersey under Enzo Maresca longside Robert Sanchez and Dorde Petrović.
