The overwhelming mood among Arsenal fans about the imminent departure of Emile Smith-Rowe is sadness.
It follows his being left out of the Arsenal squad to play Bournemouth in their pre-season friendly earlier this week, with even Mikel Arteta, who is normally tight-lipped about transfers, admitting that something was happening behind the scenes.
On the face of it the ₤35 million they are due to receive from Fulham for a player who has started just three league games in the past two years is good business for a club that has been notoriously bad at selling in recent years.
However, injuries have robbed the club of a player who helped save Arteta his job when he burst into the team, providing some much needed creativity from midfield.
And it also means that the fans will have to retire when of their favourite songs. Rockiin’ All Over the World does not really work with just Bukayo Saka’s name in it.
