Jack Wilshere is a leading candidate to become Arsenal-under 21 manager, replacing Mehmet Ali who left the club to join Brentford.
Wilshere only left his job as Arsenal under-18 coach ten minutes ago, becoming assistant manager at Championship side Norwich City. He then took temporary charge of the team for two games following the departure of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup. But he then left the East Anglian club when it was made clear to him he was not under consideration to get the job on a permanent basis.
If Wilshere does return to the Emirates, it may be linked to the development of Max Dowman. The 15-year old has been a standout performer in pre-season for the Gunners, but expectations are bing played down given his age, and he may instead play plenty of games at under-21 level in the coming season.
The Dowman family were unhappy when Wilshere left the club originally, and his return could convince them that the player’s immediate future lies at the Emirates.
