Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira is to return on loan to Porto, the club he left to join Arsenal two years ago.
The 24 year old has struggled to nail down a first-team place at the Emirates, and managed just 292 minutes of Premier League action last season, most of that from the bench.
And, when he did start, he was sent off for a poor challenge in a match against Burnley.
Fitness issues have hindered his progress – he had a knee problem which required minor surgery – but with the imminent arrival of Mikel Merino, his opportunities under Mikel Arteta are likely to diminish even further.
His departure is good news also for Ethan Nwaneri, whom many Gunners’ fans want to see given more minutes this season.
Vieira is under contract at the Emirates under 2027, but despite inheriting a famous song, has never come close to replicating in a Gunners shirt what club legend Patrick achieved.
