Chelsea winger Tyrique George is closing in on a permanent move to Serie A side Roma.
The highly rated academy graduate broke through to the first team last season, making 26 appearances in all, most of them during Chelsea’s run to the Europa Conference League final.
He was also part of the squad that won the Club World Cup in the summer, but with the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United expected to be completed before transfer deadline day, the 19-year-old finds himself surplus to requirements.
He also finds himself a victim of Chelsea’s need to show a positive balance in their summer transfer dealings to meet UEFA requirements. As an academy graduate, any sale can be booked as pure profit in the company’s accounts.
Chelsea are likely to include a hefty sell-on clause in any deal, meaning they will be entitled to a cut from any future sale of George.
