Thomas Tuchel has given Chelsea a boost by promising to remain in charge until the end of the season.
It comes with question marks over the future of a number of staff at the club following the imposition of sanctions on owner Roma Abramovich, with the ability of the club under the terms of the special licence under which it now operates to meet its payroll obligations in question.
The German feels that the players and coaching staff are in a privileged position, and that it is their responsibility to fight for those less fortunate than them.
The club’s credit facilities have been temporarily suspended whilst the banks assess the implication of the sanctions.
Tuchel is under contract with the club until 2024, but it is clear that he is making no commitments beyond the end of this season.
Already there are fears of a mass exodus of players and staff in the summer, even if the sale o the club is eventually allowed to go ahead.
