William Saliba has agreed a contract extension with Arsenal which will keep him in North London for the long-term.
The Frenchman had two years left on his existing contract with the Gunners, but they were keen to tie him down to a new deal amidst strong interest from Real Madrid. The Spanish club were ready to indulge in their usual tactics with a player they want from another club. Encourage them to run down their contract so they can then sign them on a free contract.
The 24-year old has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in Europe since returning from loan with Marseille in 2022, and his defensive partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes has provided Mikel Arteta with stability at the fact.
A significant factor in Saliba’s decision to remain at the Emirates was also because Gabriel also committed his long-term future to the North London club a few months ago.
The pair joined the young pair of Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri who have also signed contract extension with the Gunners this summer.
