Mikel Arteta has agreed a contract extension and will remain manager of Arsenal.
The Spaniard’s current deal was due to expire at the end of this season, but his extension means his stay at the club will now last until 2027.
The former club captain was initially appointed as head coach in 2019, inheriting a bloated squad and a fractured relationship with the fan base.
He ruthlessly culled some of the overpaid stars like Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whilst helping to instil a close and supporter culture, and helping to repair some of the bridges with the supporters again.
In the process, he has helped transform the club back into serial title contenders again, and got them back into the Champions League again.
Although he won the FA Cup in his first season in charge, silverware has been lacking since, and Arteta knows that he needs to address this issue to answer the few remaining doubters.
