Osinhem personal terms thwarted Chelsea deal

Although Chelsea were again the most active of all Premier League clubs in the transfer window, once again they failed to bring in a recognised striker.

It was not for want of trying, though. They tried to bring in both Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen on deadline day, but missed out on both.

Toney agreed to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli for a fee of ₤40 million.

Al-Ahli had also been interested in Osimhen, but instead chose Toney as the cheaper option.

And now it has been revealed that there was a substantial gap when it came to the personal terms that Osimhen wanted to move to Stamford Bridge.

He was demanding wages of ₤500,000 a week, whereas Chelsea were only prepared to offer ₤130,000.

With the club having adopted a strategy of signing players on lengthy contracts for relatively low wages, agreeing to his terms would have completely undermined that initiative.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Chelsea are going to have to subsidise part of Raheem Sterling’s wages whilst he spends the season on loan at Arsenal.
