Manchester United are making signing Ben Chilwell one of their priorities for the January transfer window.
Chilwell remains a Chelsea player despite being heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in the summer, and being made to train with the “bomb squad.”
However, with Marc Cucurella and a number of other options ahead of him his first-team involvement in the next few months is expected to be minimal.
United were one of the teams that looked at him in the last transfer window and maintain their interest in him, with continued doubts over the long-term fitness of Luke Shaw. Diogo Dalot has so far played for them in that position this season, but he is not a naturally left-footed player.
They could face competition, though, with reports that Atlético Madrid are also monitoring his situation.
Should he head to Spain Chilwell will find a familiar face in Madrid in the shape of former team-mate Conor Gallagher.
