Chilwell linked with Manchester United

Ben Chilwell has been told that he is free to leave Chelsea before the transfer window closes, with Manchester United emerging as a possible destination.

Chilwell endured a difficult campaign last season, struggling with injuries and a loss of form, and that ultimately cost him a place in the England squad for the Euros.

He subsequently missed Chelsea’s games during their pre-season tour in the US.

Marc Cucurella has now established himself as left-back at Stamford bridge, and with plenty of other options available, Chilwell finds himself surplus to requirements. He is under contract at the club until 2027, and, although there is no immediate need to sell him, he is one of the highest paid players at the club, and reducing the wage bill is part of the overreaching strategy.

United are in the market for a left-back, with Luke Shaw yet again set for more time in the tratement room.
