Ben Chilwell remains in limbo as far as Chelsea are concerned.
The left-back is part of the so-called “bomb squad” of players who are training away from the rest of the first-team because they are deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Urged to find a new club before the European transfer window closed Chilwell failed to secure any substantive offers.
There were hopes that Turkey might provide a solution – the window there remains open until September 13th. However, despite being offered to a number of clubs, Chelsea have yet to receive a response from any of them.
There is still time for the situation to change, but, as it stands, Chelsea face the prospect of having an unhappy player on their books until January at least, and must continue to pay the wages of somebody wo remains under contract until 2027.
And that will raise questions again about the thinking behind Chelsea’s transfer strategy.
