Chelsea want to sign goalkeeper Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund.
There is increasing concern about the mistakes made by current number one stop shopper Roberto Sanchez. No goalkeeper has made more errors in the Premier League that have led directly to goals than him, with his most recent blunder coming against Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.
And although the club has a number of other goalkeepers in their books, none is judged capable of holding down the number one jersey on a regular basis.
Attention has now switched to Kobel, although it is accepted that Chelsea might have to wait until the summer before landing him. He was instrumental in helping his side reach the Champions League final last season, and is regarded as one of the best in his position in the Bundesliga.
There are suggestions that Chelsea are prepared to match Dortmund’s valuation of the player at ₤67 million, which would rank him amongst the most expensive goalkeepers of all-time.
