Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are to keep their jobs as sporting directors at Chelsea.

The pair had come under scrutiny given the excess of ₤1 billion spend in the transfer market since the Todd Boehly -Clearwater Capital consortium took control of the club.

However, ahead of a wide-ranging performance review which will take place next week after the final game of the season, they have been given assurances that their positions will not be affected.

In fact, they have the support of board members and will once again lead the club’s efforts in the transfer market in the coming summer, although how much money they will have to spend is not clear, given that the club have issues with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.

The club have also recently appointed Sam Jewell as head of global recruitment and he is expected to work closely with both Winstanley and Stewart.
