Chelsea are set to compete for the signature of Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres next summer.

The former Coventry City forward scored a hat-trick for Sporting against Manchester City in the Champions League this week, and has been linked with a move to Old Trafford following in the footsteps of his manager Rúben Amórim.

However, Chelsea are also interested in signing him especially as he will be available tor ₤63 million, which is a reduction of ₤20 million on his current release clause.

Although Nicolas Jackson is having a good season for Chelsea, and was rewarded with a contarct extension, the club remain in search of an established goalscorer.

The Swedish international already knows England well.

He was on the books of Brighton for several years and, although he never played for them, he had loan spells with Swansea City and Coventry, before joining the Championship club on a permanent basis.

It was his form with them that persuaded Sporting to buy him, and led to his subsequent rise to prominence.
