Bayern Munich have agreed personal terms with striker Chrispher Nkonku who wants to leave Chelsea.
Nkonku has become frustrated with his role under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge – although he is the club’s top scorer this season, most of his goals and appearances have been in cup competitions, with Nicolas Jackson the preferred starter in the Premier League.
This was not the envisaged scenario when he was signed for ₤52 million from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. But injuries delayed his start for his new club, and he has failed to establish himself as a regular since returning to fitness.
If Nkonku is allowed to leave, Chelsea may look to bring in another striker as a replacement before the January window closes. One name that is being mentioned internally is Liam Delap, somebody that Maresca knows from their previous time together at Manchester City, and who is performing impressively for Ipswich Town this season.
