Arsenal could now turn to Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman as they continue their search for a goalkeeper to provide competition to Bernd Leno.
The Gunners were linked with a move for Aaron Ramsdale of Sheffield United, but talks between the two clubs ended after they were unable to agree a valuation.
There has been speculation that they could take advantage of the financial turmoil at Barcelona by making a cut-price bid for Brazilian Neto, but Woodman has emerged as an alternative.
Woodman was originally discussed as part of a deal for Joe Willock, but, in the end, the North London club only wanted cash for the midfielder, which Newcastle finally agreed to pay.
The former England under-21 keeper has the advantage for Arsenal in that he is home grown, as they need to reach their quota by the time that Premier League squads have to be finalised.
