Chelsea spent much of the summer trying to agree a deal with Napoli for Victor Osimhen, though he left in the end for Turkey and a season-long loan with Galatasaray.
He remains a person of interest and is one name on the club’s shortlist of strikers.
It also includes compatriot Victor Boniface, who was part of the Bayer Leverkusen team that won the league and cup double in Germany last season.
At the start of last season, he was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for four consecutive months and was also the top scorer in that year’s Europa League.
23-year-old Boniface joined Leverkusen from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise and made an immediate impression, scoring 21 goals in 34 appearances for his new club.
He has already found the net four times in six games this season.
Capped eight times by Nigeria, Boniface might cost considerably less than his compatriot.
