Whilst it may not be the big money signing many fans have been anticipating, Arsenal are close to securing the services of Matteo Tognozzi.
New Sporting Director Andrea Berta wants to increase the circle of those at the club working on transfers, and there is now a vacancy following the departure of Jason Ayto, who had been fulfilling the role of Sporting Director on an interim basis, after Edu left the club.
However, having lost on to Berta for the job on a permanent basis, Ayto decided to seek pastures new.
Tognozzi is a former executive at Juventus and Granada, and is in line for a senior recruitment role at the Emirates. It is hoped that he could join the club in line to assist with the club’s summer transfer business.
It is the latest sign of how Berta is carving out his own space at the club, although how the exact hierarchy will work if he does come on board has yet to be clarified.
