Chelsea have signed teenage defender Mamadou Sarr from sister club Ligue 1 Strasbourg.
The 19-year completed his move in time to be registered for the Club World Cup and took their spend in the mini transfer window to over ₤60 million.
They continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, but, with the two clubs currently apart on price, are prepared to wait for that deal to be com-leted.
Sarr has signed a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033, although in accounting terms, they will only be able to amortise it over five years.
His father is the former Senegal international Pape Sarr, and was part of the side that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2022.
The son has played for France at youth level, and was a member of the team that won the under-17 Euros in 2022. He has been praised for his athleticism, temperament, and ability on the ball.
