United set to miss out on key transfer target

Manchester United could be set to miss out on one of their key transfer targets after it emerged that Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is set to sign a new lucrative long-term deal with the East Midlands club.

The 23-year old moved to Leicester from Norwich City on a 5 year deal in June 2018 for a fee of £22 million, and has since established himself as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League, having already scored five goals and provided three assists this season.

That formed earned him a place in the England squad, and he made his full international appearance as a sub last month, coming on as a sub in the Euro 2020 qualifying win over Montenegro at Wembley.

He had been linked with a big money move to Old Trafford next summer but that speculation could be about to end, with Leicester keen to tie him down to a new deal at the cub, just as they did with manager Brendan Rogers last week.
