Manchester United are ready to renew their interest in Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld.
The Old Trafford side have identified the need to recruit an experienced defender as a top priority for the summer, and are ready to go back to Spurs for a player with whom they were heavily linked when Jose Mourinho was still the manager.
The Belgian has been at loggerheads with Spurs over a new contract at White Hart Lane which he has refused to sign. In order to protect themselves against losing a valuable asset, therefore, the North London side triggered an option to further extend his current deal by a year in January.
But, as The Sun explains, in doing so, they also activated a release clause in his contract, which means that the 30-year old is free to talk to any club that meets his £25 million valuation, although United have yet to make a formal approach to Spurs about the player.
