United monitoring Leeds midfielder

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

Scouts have been monitoring the 23-year old for some time,  and United assistant manager Mike Phelan was in the stands to watch his performance against Birmingham last weekend. Then coach Kieran McKenna also ran the rule over Phillips in midweek, as he impressed in the midweek draw away to EFL Championship rivals Preston North End.

Earlier this year Leeds rejected a £27 million bid from Tottenham for Phillips, and it was one of the conditions of manager Marcelo Bielsa that he would only stay for a second season at the club if they did not sell the English midfielder in the summer.

However, although Phillips has signed a long-term deal at Leeds, his future at the club would appear to be inextricably linked with whether they win promotion this season. If they fall short, as they did last season, then it is hard to see them keeping hold of the Elland Road academy graduate.
