Manchester United’s hopes of signing Ousmane Dembélé from Barcelona have been dealt a blow.

The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer, with the Premier League club looking to sign him on loan, with an option to buy.

At the time, the French international rejected the opportunity because he wanted to prove himself at Barcelona, which annoyed the Catalans who wanted to sell him to raise some much-needed funds.

However. Dembélé has gradually won over his new manager Ronald Koeman with a series of impressive performances, providing four goals and two assists in 11 appearances for the club so far this season. He both scored and provided an assist in their Champions League win at Ferencváros on Wednesday night.

That has resulted in a change of mind from Barcelona and they have decided that they now want to keep him and have already started negotiations with the player about a new long-term deal.
