Manchester United have decided to put on hold any discussions about a  contract extension with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer until the end of the season.

The 47-year-old Norwegian was appointed initially n an interim basis when Jose Mourinho was sacked in December 2018. Three months later he signed a three year deal.

That will just have 12 months to run in the summer, and there is the option to extend it by a further two years which, if exercised, could see Solskkaer’s salary boosted to almost £6 million a year.

However, the Board wants to see how the club performs for the rest of the season, wit qualification for the Champions League again seen as a minimum requirement.

United reached the FA Cup quarter-final with a  narrow wi over West Ham on Tuesday night and they are still in the Europa League, playing Real Sociedad of Spain in the round of 32.
