Tottenham in talks over new deal for Tanganga

Tottenham are close to agreeing a new deal with defender Japhet Tanganga.

The academy graduate has been a bright light in an otherwise mixed season for the North London club, and, having been given his first-team debut by Jose Mourinho in the match against Liverpool, has gone on to make 11 appearances for them in all competitions.

Tanganga’s current deal at Tottenham was expected to end at the conclusion of this season, but the club have exercised an option for a further year, tying him down until 2021.

Initially talks over a new contract stalled, but now there has been a breakthrough in negotiations, with Tanganga set to stay at the club, and earning himself a bumper new pay rise as he tries to make himself a permanent fixture in their backline.

Born in Hackney, East London, to Congolese parents, Tanganga has played for England at every age group up to under-20 level.
