Time running out for Premier League clubs to bid for Werner

Premier League clubs have just 11 days to trigger the £49 million release clause for Timo Werner.

The German international current release clause with RB Leipzig expires on June 15th, after which date the Bundesliga side are expected to increase their valuation of the 24 year old considerably.

Liverpool were the favourites to sign him, but their interest has cooled because of the financial constraints they face in the current climate, whilst both Manchester United and Chelsea also have him in their sights.

Bayern Munich are also interested in him, but Werner appears to have ruled them out by saying he prefers to move abroad.

He still has three years left on his contract with Leipzig, having signed a new long-term deal with them last year, so the German side are under no immediate pressure to sell him.

And hopes that they will be prepared to discount his price have been dealt a blow after PSG exercised their option to make the loan deal of Mauro Icardi permanent for £45 million, setting a benchmark price for top strikers.
