Premier League wants changes to loan system

A majority of Premier League clubs are in favour of changing the loan system for players under the age of 21.

In 2016, FIFA scrapped the concept of the emergency loan window that allowed players to move from one club to another on a temporary basis outside the transfer window in order to protect the integrity of the game.

However, that has seen the chances for young players, especially at the bigger clubs, to experience first-team football restricted, and now proposals have been put forward to allow those aged 20 and under to move even though transfer deadline day may have passed.

This would benefit both the teams and young players, and, in the longer-term, could benefit English football as a whole.

Academies are also expected to reopen next month, following the gradual relaxation of Covid measures announced by the UK government, having been forced to shut during the third lockdown.
