Newcastle United are the latest club linked with Axel Disasi, one of the members of Enzo Marecas’s bomb squad at Chelsea.
Eddie Howe is looking for a new centre-back with their league challenge this season undermined by a lack of defensive stability. And Disasi, who has only played 17 games in the last two seasons, is now one of the names on the shortlist, although they could face competition.
Borussia Dortmund are still regarded as the favourites to sign him in January, but West Ham are also among the other clubs interested.
The Frenchman has been forced to train alone this season, along with Raheem Sterling, although he has featured twice for Chelsea’s academy star.
Lyon, who are about to lose several players to the African Cup of Nations are also believed to have reached out to Disasi to see if he is interested in joining them.
It does appear, though, for the player that there is now some light at the end of what has been a very dark tunnel in his career.
