Mustafi edges closer to Emirates exit

Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi could be about to leave Arsenal during the current transfer window.

A £35 million buy from Valencia in 2016, Mustafi has become something of a lightning rod for the team’s defensive woes in recent seasons, with a number of high profile errors, and a tendency to slide in on opponents unnecessarily.

He was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer but, in the end, no club could be found prepared to match Arsenal’s valuation of him.

Now though, he has changed agent, and his representative has flown to Turkey to try and negotiate a deal to Super Lig side Galatasary.

Mustafi has started just one Premier League game under Mikel Arteta, the draw at Bournemouth, where he deputised for the suspended Sokratis. However, he does not feature in the Spaniard’s long-term plans, and the club are more than willing to let the German international leave in January.
