Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy is considering his future at the club.
The 30 year old has lost his place as first choice since Graham Potter took charge, with Kepa Arrizabalaga preferred to him, although an injury to the Spaniard saw Mendy back between the sticks prior to the World Cup break.
Ironically, it was Arrizabalaga whom Mendy displaced since his arrival from Rennes in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth an initial £22 million.
Whilst Arrizabalaga has been out with a foot injury, Chelsea have lost three of the four games they played, although that cannot be blamed on the Senegalese keeper alone, with the whole team misfunctioning.
The news, though, that Chelsea are considering going back to Potter’s old club to sign Robert Sanchez will not inspire confidence in Mendy that he can win the fight to be number one at Stamford Bridge again on a long-term basis.
The club had previously held talks with the 30 year old over a contract extension but have been unable to reach agreement on terms.
