Christhian Mosquera was lined-up to be Arsenal’s fifth summer signing.
A fee had been agreed with his club Valencia for the Spanish under-21 international, and with personal terms not an issue, he had flown to London to complete the deal.
And he even featured by accident in the announcement video of another arrival, Noni Madueke.
Yet when the squad departed for their pre-season tour of Asia, Mosquera was not on the plane, and it now transpires that some issues arose during his medical.
Whilst medical confidentiality means that more details cannot be revealed, the transfer will not be completed until such issues are resolved.
The current expectations are that Mosquera will eventually become an Arsenal player, but no chances will be taken, given that the Spaniard is, in part, a replacement for Takehiro Tomiyasu who had his own fitness issues during his time at the Emirates, and, in the end, his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
