It has been a bad few weeks for Enzo Maresca as Chelsea manager.

His team suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, going down to ten men on each occasion. They were also outclassed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and struggled ot get past Lincoln City in the EFL Cup.

Meanwhile, his comments about bomb squad members Raheem Sterling and Axel Disasi and unflattering comparisons with his father who is a fisherman raised eyebrows in some quarters.

However, having won the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup just a few month ago, he still has goodwill in the bank as far as the club’s owners are concerned.

And the manager himself remains positive, pointing to the large number of injuries that his side are carrying at the moment, and that pressure goes with the job of being Chelsea manager.

Maresca will know that one good result can change the whole narrative around the club, and Liverpool at the weekend offers an ideal opportunity.
