Mandźukić contract details emerge

Manchester United are confident of signing Croatian forward Mario Mandźukić in January, and now details of their contract offer have emerged.

The Old Trafford side are ready to bid £9 million for the striker, which they believe will be enough to persuade Juventus to let him leave Turin in the New Year.

United are set to hand the 33 year old an 18 month deal which will be worth around £4.4 million a year, or £85,000 a week. Signing Mandźukić is against United’s transfer policy of targeting young, primarily British talent, but he is regarded as a necessary short-term fix to United’s striker problem, with the side having failed to score more than one goal in any match, since putting four past Chelsea in the opening match of the season.

Having sold Romelu Lukaku in the summer, and allowed Alexis Sanchez to leave on loan, United left themselves short of striking options, so the recruitment of the Croat should add some strength in depth to their forward line.
