New Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy faces up to nine months out of the game due to a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury. Mendy, who joined City from Monaco for £52 million in the summer, has played in five games for the Manchester club this season, and had already begun to establish a reputation as a fan favourite.
However, the knock he picked up in last Saturday’s game with Crystal Palace has proved to be much more serious than was first thought, and he can expect a prolonged period on the sidelines whilst he recovers.
Whilst City have alternatives in their squad to cover the position – Fabian Delph, Danilo, Fernandinho and Zinchenko – none of them are natural left-backs, which may force the club into the market in January to find a suitable replacement.
