Maatsen to sign new deal ahead of loan

Chelsea full-back Ian Maatsen is to sign a new deal with the club, and then he will be allowed to go on loan in January.

The 21 year old has grown increasingly frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, and has hinted he is prepared to make a difficult decision if his circumstances do not improve.

Despite that, Chelsea continue to believe he may have a bright future at the club, and are keen to protect the long-term value of an asset whose current contract expires in 2025.

And now it seems a compromise deal has been struck, whereby he will sign a long-term contract, but will be free to go somewhere he can play regular football in the second-half of the season.

He has previously enjoyed loan spells with Charlton, Coventry and most recently Burnley, who wanted to sign the Dutch under-21 international on a permanent basis in the summer.

And there have also been suggestions that Manchester City might want to acquire his services.
