Llorente finally opts for Napoli

Former Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente has finally decided on his short-term future by signing for Serie A side Napoli.

The 34 year old was a free agent after his contract ran out at White Hart Lane in the summer, and had been linked with a number of clubs. They included his former club Spurs, who were prepared to offer him a new deal on significantly reduced terms, and more recently Manchester United, to provide emergency cover for their strikers after the injury to Anthony Martial.

However, he has now opted for a return to Serie A, agreeing a two year deal with Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Llorente enjoyed a successful three years in Italy previously with Juventus, who he played for between 2013 and 2015,  during which time he won Serie A three times, the Coppa Italia, and the Supercoppa Italiana twice.

He joins a side still licking their wounds after a heart-breaking loss to Juventus on the weekend, having fought back from three goals down to equalise, only to concede an injury-time own goal scored by Kalidou Koulibaly.
