Liverpool set to miss out on Coutinho money

It is expected that Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho will leave Barcelona this summer.

And, when and if that happens, then Liverpool are set to miss out on £35 million due to them as part of the deal that took him to the Nou Camp in the first place.

Coutinho signed for Barcelona in January 2018 for £142 million, part of which was contingent on him making so many appearances from the Spanish team. However, he has failed to make the expected impression in Spain, and was sent out on loan to German champions Bayern Munich at the start of this season.

He has performed well on occasions for the Bundesliga side, but they have not seen enough to want to exercise their option to convert the loan deal into a permanent move, and he will return to the Catalans at the end of the season.

They, in turn will want to sell him, perhaps for less than half what they paid Liverpool for him, and, with Coutinho having failed to make the requisite number of appearances for certain performance related add-ons to kick-in, then the Anfield side will also miss out.
