Lampard shuts door on Christensen exit

Frank Lampard has ended speculation that Danish defender Andreas Christensen could be allowed to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The 23 year old, who was a regular starter under Mauricio Sarri, has struggled to hold down a first-team place under his successor, and has started just eight Premier League games so far this season.

That lack of opportunity had sparked interest from potential suitors, with struggling AC Milan amongst the clubs considering making a bid for the Danish international.

However, Lampard insists that he is a fan of Christensen, who he admires for his height, athleticism and ability on the ball. When asked about a potential transfer he said “I can rule it out. I like Andreas as a player; I’ve always liked him”.

Christensen joined the Chelsea academy as a 15 year old, and made his first-team debut in 2014. He has played 84 times for the West London club, although he did spent two years on loan with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchoengladbach.
