The feud between Roy Keane and Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes shows no signs of dying down.
It began following United’s win over Nottingham Forest which saw Fernandes draw level with the Premier League assist record (something he subsequently broke). Keane asserted that Fernandes was obsessed with the record, to the detriment of the team, calling it a “circus act.”
Fernandes bit back, though, on a podcast, accusing Keane of lying and putting words in his mouth. He also demanded the phone number of the Irishman so he could speak to him directly to refute the allegations.
But Roy Keane has never been a man to back away from an argument, and he has shown no signs of regret or contrition. Instead, he has issued a social media post saying “too much attention makes a donkey think he is a lion.”
Fernandes scooped all the major player awards – Premier League Player of the Year, Football Writers’ Player of the Year, and PFA Player of the Year – although players of previous generations insist that the number of assists they provided was not considered a major issue in their day.
