Nicolas Jackson’s proposed loan move to Bayern Munich has collapsed.
The striker travelled to Germany for a medical and to finalise a season-long loan, but Chelsea withdrew their permission at the last minute and ordered him to return to London.
Jackson is said to be furious, while Bayern are exploring whether there is still a way to rescue the deal.
There were suggestions Chelsea might reconsider if the move was made permanent, and they were considering Sporting’s Conrad Haider as a replacement, but he is in advanced stages of switch to RB Leipzig. In the meantime, Marc Guiu has been recalled from his loan spell at Sunderland.
The reversal came at the end of a turbulent 24 hours for Chelsea’s attacking options. The club began the weekend with four fit strikers, but that number quickly dwindled. Christopher Nkunku’s sale to AC Milan reduced the tally to three, before Liam Delap limped off with a suspected hamstring injury in the first half of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Fulham. He is expected to be out for between six and eight weeks.
That left summer signing João Pedro as the only fit senior forward available. With Delap’s recovery timeline uncertain, Chelsea have decided they cannot afford to lose Jackson, at least until the January transfer window reopens.
