Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein is set to go on loan for the coming season, with Spanish club Real Valladolid making a late bid for his services in preference to League One Charlton Athletic.
The Estonian international had been expected to leave the club at the end of last season, and, although he ended up signing a new deal, a pre-condition of that is that he would be given the chance to play first-team football somewhere.
With David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale both recovering from their Euros involvement, Hein was the only senior goalkeeper available during the Gunners’ recent US tour.
His departure, though, does leave Arsenal exposed in the goalkeeping area, with Aaron Ramsdale expected to secure his own move away before the transfer window opens.
Teenager Tommy Sefton has been signed from Ajax, but he is very much one for the future and he is not ready for first-team involvement yet.
Valladolid have just been promoted back to La Liga.
