Everton defender Ashley Williams is being linked with a loan move to Stoke City.
The 33-year old Welsh international is out of favour with new Everton manager Marco Silva who is happy for him to leave the club, and Stoke, who are in the market for another central defender ahead of the start of the Championship season, have emerged as potential candidates to take Williams on loan.
According to The Daily Mail, discussions between the two clubs are now focused on the willingness, or otherwise, of Everton to meet part of Williams’ weekly wages which amount to £65,000.
Stoke had been hoping to tie-up a cut price deal for another Welsh international centre-back, James Chester from Aston Villa, but, following the injection of cash into the Midlands club by its new majority owners, that transfer now looks increasingly unlikely to happen.
Williams has made 60 Premier League appearances for Everton since arriving at the club two years ago for a fee of £12 million from Swansea City.
