David Luiz completes Arsenal move

David Luiz completed his shock move to Arsenal on deadline day.

The Gunners had been linked with a whole host of defensive reinforcements this summer, but Luiz was not amongst them, and news of a potential move for him came as a surprise to most Arsenal supporters when reports first began to emerge from both clubs on Wednesday evening.

However, after the Brazilian trained alone at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, he made the short trip across town on Thursday morning to Arsenal’s London Colney training ground to have his medical, before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal, for a transfer fee of £8 million.

The 32-year old spent six years at Chelsea in all, sandwiched by a spell in France with PSG, and made 160 Premier League appearances for the Blues, scoring 11 goals in the process.  Chelsea have allowed him to leave despite their being subject to a FIFA transfer ban, indicating that Frank Lampard had decided Luiz did not figure in his plans for the season ahead.
